The View Has Been On For Almost 25 Years — Here Are 17 Times The Hosts Were Problematic As Hell

Whoopi is not the first or last to make controversial statements on the talk show.

The View has been on air for almost 25 years. The show has covered almost every hot-button topic imaginable. This has led to the many cohosts saying problematic and controversial things that have led to backlash, scandal, suspension, petitions and more.

Heads up: This post deals with racism, homophobia, sexism, rape, and more sensitive topics.

Here are some moments that sparked outrage and made headlines:

Most recently, when Whoopi Goldberg said the Holocaust was not about race:

Here’s a closer look at what Whoopi says in the second video about the Holocaust: “Well, this is white people doing it to white people. So, this is y’all go fight amongst yourselves.”

When Kelly Osbourne attempted to criticize Trump’s stance on immigration, and wound up saying this offensive statement:

Sharon Osbourne’s daughter Kelly in 2015:

“If you kick out all the Latinos who’s going to clean your toilets?”

04:34 AM – 14 Mar 2021

She soon after apologized on Facebook, writing, “I want to start by saying I ALWAYS take responsibility for my actions. In this particular case I will take responsibility for my poor choice of words but I will not apologize for being a racist as I am NOT. It is my hope that this situation will open up a conversation about immigration and the Latin community as a whole.”

When Joy Behar caused a huge backlash when she questioned why a Miss America contestant — who was talking about how she’s a nurse — was holding a “doctor’s stethoscope:”

This sparked nurses to express outrage using the hashtag #NursesUnite.

When Raven Simone controversially said that she would not hire someone with a different-sounding name, such as Watermelondrea:

This was used against her when Ann Coulter came on. Ann said, “I’m at least talking about policy. You have a position on what people’s names should be. You’ll insult people for their names.”

And when Raven victim-blamed a student who was violently attacked by a police officer:

This caused over 100,000 people to sign a petition to have her fired from the show.

When Elisabeth Hasselbeck consistently advocated against gay marriage:

When Raven tried to say a news anchor comparing First Lady Michelle Obama to an animal wasn’t racist:

Raven-Symoné doesn’t think Rodner Figueroa comparing Michelle Obama to an ape was racist — thoughts?

When Whoopi defended Bill Cosby, who has been accused by dozens of rape:

When Meghan McCain emphasized that she was ok with people calling COVID-19 the “Chinese virus,” despite the surge of Asian hate during the pandemic.

Me either🤷‍♂️

06:35 PM – 16 Nov 2021

When Sherri Shepherd said she’d never want her son to wear a dress:

When Barbara Walters defended Woody Allen, who has been accused of sexually abusing his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow:
